SAN JOSE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 3, 2001--
Leader Delivers Industry's First Residential Gateways to Support
Every Major Type of Home Networking Technology
2Wire(TM), Inc. (www.2Wire.com), the leading provider of
residential gateways, today announced new wireless versions of its
award-winning HomePortal(TM) residential gateways. 2Wire's new
wireless HomePortal product line, which includes the HomePortal 1500W,
the HomePortal 100W and the 2Wire ICS 2000W, are the first residential
gateways to support every major type of networking for home, home
office or small office environments.
By supporting all popular types of home networking technologies,
including IEEE 802.11b wireless, Home Phoneline Networking (HPNA),
Ethernet and USB, the 2Wire HomePortal wireless residential gateways
provides ultimate flexibility for users by allowing them to choose
their preferred methods for sharing Internet access.
"The explosive growth in both wireless Internet devices and
wireless networking, combined with the rapid growth in the number of
broadband homes with multiple PCs, will fuel a strong demand for
wireless residential gateways," said Brian Hinman, president and CEO
of 2Wire. "With the introduction of our HomePortal wireless
residential gateway product line, we're continuing to deliver
flexible, high-performance products that consumers require to meet
their home networking needs."
With integrated access point functionality and a built-in antenna,
the full line of HomePortal wireless residential gateways allow users
to send and receive information at speeds up to 11Mbps. Computers with
a wireless connection to the HomePortal can easily and securely surf
the Internet, as well as sharing resources with computers with wired
connection. The typical range for the HomePortal wireless products is
50 to 150 feet, and line-of-sight is not required so users can connect
wireless devices in different rooms and on different floors throughout
the home.
The 2Wire HomePortal 1500W is an ideal solution for home users
with the need to network multiple computers and share a common
broadband ADSL connection. With a built-in ADSL modem and an
integrated business-grade firewall for maximum security, the
HomePortal 1500W distributes high-speed Internet access around the
home and protects computers from hacker attacks. The HomePortal 1500W
also extends IPSec pass-through support for corporate VPN access for
