D-LINK EXPANDS ITS AWARD WINNING WIRELESS LINE TO INCLUDE
802.11b 11-Mb COMPACT FLASH ADAPTER
New Wireless Adapter Provides The Convenience Of Wireless Networking For
Popular Handheld Computers and PDAs
IRVINE, Calif., August 1, 2001
D-Link, a leading designer and
manufacturer of networking, data communications and digital electronic
technologies for the Digital Home, Small to Medium Business and the
Workgroup to Enterprise environments, today launched the D-Link Air
DCF-650W. The D-Link Air DCF-650W is a high-performance 11 Mbps IEEE 802.11b Compact Flash Wireless Network Adapter. This wireless adapter
allows users to connect their Handheld PC (HPC) or PDA to any IEEE 802.11b wireless network whether in the home, the office, or out on the road.
"Our new wireless compact flash adapter makes surfing the Internet and synchronizing your PDA simple," said Steven Joe President of D-Link.
"The strict adherence with the latest IEEE 802.11b Networking Standard for
Wireless connections and compact flash standards mean the DCF-650W is interoperable with all compliant hardware."
Despite its small size, the DCF-650W delivers the types of Industry standard features expected in a fully IEEE 802.11b wireless adapter card.
Complete support for both 64-bit and 128-bit WEP encryption guarantees network security. The included compact flash user interface for Pocket PC
is revolutionary in design and function. This interface makes the D-Link DCF-650W not only easy to install and use, but provides support for dynamic
wireless settings and general network diagnostics.
The DCF-650W includes expanded features required by the PDA or HPC user. Multiple power settings allow the user to choose battery life over extended
range to ensure that they can always connect when and how they want to connect while minimizing any battery drain. True hot swap capabilities
allow easy removal and storage or installation of the device dependant on network availability or user desire to access wireless services.
The D-Link DCF-650W can connect a user's Pocket PC to another IEEE 802.11b device or network through peer-to-peer (Ad Hoc) mode or through an
access point (Infrastructure Mode). The network adapter has full mobility and seamless roaming across access points, so users can move around without
additional configuration. The range of coverage per cell for indoor use is up to 100 meters and up to 300 meters per cell for outdoor use.
The D-Link Air DCF-650W is 100% compliant with the IEEE 802.11b standards for wireless networking. The wireless adapter will operate in
2.4 GHz Direct Sequence Spread Spectrum (DSSS) for wireless networks in the home or office environment. The DCF-650W is designed with the ability to
operate in 3.3V DC in two different power consumption modes.
In Infrastructure mode, the DCF-650W can be connected to a wireless enabled broadband residential gateway to share high-speed Internet access
on an existing network. The D-Link DCF-650W wireless network adapters transmit rate values can be manually selected Fixed 1 Mbps, Fixed 11 Mbps,
Fixed 2 Mbps, Fixed 5.5 Mbps and Fully Auto. The DCF-650W includes an internal non-detachable patch inverse F antenna for maximum range. Two LED
indicators report the real-time state of power, network link and activity. The DCF-650W is compatible with Windows CE version 3.0.
This D-Link wireless multi-bandwidth auto sensing/auto negotiation network is cutting edge technology. The D-Link 11 Mb wireless network is
faster than existing proprietary wireless networks, the typical network found at retail, and much faster performance than those existing legacy
wireless devices and networks.
Price and Availability
The D-Link DCF-650W Compact Flash Wireless Adapter is available now through authorized retail, reseller, and distribution partners at a
Manufacturer's Suggested Retail Price, MSRP of $199 and an Estimated Street Price, ESP of $149. The D-Link DCF-650W comes with a One-Year Limited
Warranty and absolutely FREE Technical Support, including software and driver updates.
