BOTTOM LINE: works well REALITY vs. EXPECTATIONS: about as I expected. DETAILS: i'm using a dlink wireless n router and signal all over house(4bedroom house) is always at very good to excellent with with speed at 216mbps to 270mbps. signal is as strong as the internal wireless g, but with that i only get the 54mbps speed, so i just turn the internal adapter off and use the belkin one instead
BOTTOM LINE: Get one NOW before your digital pix disappear... REALITY vs. EXPECTATIONS: much better than I expected. DETAILS: Far more feature rich and easier to use than I had anticipated.
BOTTOM LINE: A cold day in hell before I purchase Netgear! REALITY vs. EXPECTATIONS: much worse than I expected. DETAILS: After a multiple disk failure with enterprise class drives as had made my first real support request from Netgear.
I can't say I am impressed! In fact the 3rd level support engineer had failed to contact me at all regardless of my repeated efforts/bribes/complaints! 6 weeks with not a single response. Not even an email just stating he was too busy to get back to me at the moment.
Repeatedly I had asked just for any status update, anything even just an email acknowledging my support request.
The bizarre part of all this, was that the Australian support team, were unable to get a status update from 3rd level support.
After the pathetic response from Netgear, I doubt I will ever deal with them again. The unit has not been disposed of with the rubbish as in all moral conscience, I could not sell a Netgear product to anyone.
If you are game enough, sure buy Netgear. Live on the edge. :)

BOTTOM LINE: It is so bad that it is almost undescribable REALITY vs. EXPECTATIONS: much worse than I expected. DETAILS: Gone through 5 different FVG318 routers. 3 firmware 1 and 2 firmware 2 (latest updates 20080717). Stability is the problem. Hangs, looses settings on reboot. Using them for a "star" VPN configuration with 2 routers. Nothing works for more than 2 days. From the beginning there was problems, reboots, unmotivated hangs. I have lost at least 8000$ on this (for hardware worth 200$). (IT consultant). So sad. Netgear used to be good value for money. Dont buy!!!!
BOTTOM LINE: So baaaaaaaad. REALITY vs. EXPECTATIONS: much worse than I expected. DETAILS: Tried 5 FVG318. 3 firmware 1 and 2 firmware 2. Latest firmwares (20080714) Nothing works for more than a day. DONT BUY!!!
BOTTOM LINE: The Best 1GbE NIC for its price (USD17 in Ukraine) REALITY vs. EXPECTATIONS: much better than I expected. DETAILS: Very useful product !!!
BOTTOM LINE: High Failure Rate. DO NOT BUY! REALITY vs. EXPECTATIONS: much worse than I expected. DETAILS: We've had 3 of these NAS units now fail in a row within 1 to 4 weeks of normal use. Either Maxtor had a bad production run and is replacing bad units under warranty with equally bad and unrepaired units from the same run as replacements or these NAS devices are simply poorly and cheaply designed and subject to continuous failure.
Seagate/Maxtor has claimed in warranty replacement discussions that the failure rate on these drives is less than 1%. At this point, it is becoming obvious to me that this appears to be a blatant lie to consumers to hide the entirely defective nature of this product.
BOTTOM LINE: Recommended REALITY vs. EXPECTATIONS: much better than I expected. DETAILS: I've been using it as a printer server and/or router for too many years to count. Just found a way to get it to work in Vista: The XP setup won't let you change the IP address of port. To do so, run regedit, find Siemens until you see the default IP address, edit it (3 times). Close and print! This tip may work with similar products
