BOTTOM LINE: Great Product I love it! REALITY vs. EXPECTATIONS: much better than I expected. DETAILS: Very nice layout and easy to setup. I not use it on a regular basis. I was considering Microsoft Home Server but Network Magic seems to do everything I need and more.
BOTTOM LINE: Don't bather REALITY vs. EXPECTATIONS: worse than I expected. DETAILS: jerky video with audio drop out on home network with slingbox attached to wired network and outputting with G wireless.
BOTTOM LINE: don't buy this one REALITY vs. EXPECTATIONS: much worse than I expected. DETAILS: Linksys installer saw the NSLU2 and two 500 GB drives. After setup it formatted the drives after which I exited. Firefox was able to connect to the NSLU2 and change the password and I setup a series of accounts. NSLU2 showed up on Vista network but I could not access the drives from the desktop. Linksys tech support could not get it to work either and after 3 hours gave up and issued a RMA number. The replacement came within a week (less a few items) and the installer software recognized the NSLU2 and this time after exiting the setup program Vista could not see the NSLU2. I hooked up a PC with XP, and the installer-setup program saw the NSLU2 and could change the settings, but after exiting the NSLU2 did not show up on the network. In each case the firewall was turned off and several reboots were interlaced to make sure the PC was not lagging behind any changes. I am still trying to get this device to work. At this point the web browser times out looking for the device on the network. If I bypass the router I can ping the device, but with the router in line nothing can be pinged. In all cases the iMac also sitting on the network can ping the device but the NSLU2 does not show up on the desktop nor can it be seen by the mac network. This device is a black hole as it sucks away hours of your life trying to make it work.
BOTTOM LINE: lost money REALITY vs. EXPECTATIONS: worse than I expected. DETAILS: not woprth it. it did not detect the scan capability of the printer although it is claimed to work with my printer. it keeps losing wireless connectivity. and offcourse not printing except when connected by hardwire.
BOTTOM LINE: Does the job - Vista problem can be fixed! REALITY vs. EXPECTATIONS: about as I expected. DETAILS: I had the same problem as some others guys with connecting from Vista. The solution was found here: http://www.conetrix.com/Blog/post/Problem-with-Vista-and-Western-Digital-NetCenter-NAS.aspx
BOTTOM LINE: Would recommend this to any home user REALITY vs. EXPECTATIONS: much better than I expected. DETAILS: Worked right out of the box. Built the second drive with no problem when I added it at a later date. Biggest con is trying to figure out the User rights and Home directory structures but once that is done it works like a charm. Very fast
BOTTOM LINE: Discontinued in 2003 - update these reviews, Tim! REALITY vs. EXPECTATIONS: much worse than I expected. DETAILS: I already typed in my opinion once and then found out the captcha picture hadn't displayed. When I punched the Get New Image button it erased everything, so figure out for yourself what I REALLY want to tell you right now.
