Summary

Follow the instructions and screenshots below to install Wingate with WWW, POP, SMTP and News proxy services.

If you want to install WWW proxy services only, use this page.

You will need the following information to complete the installer screens:

  • Name of your ISP's SMTP server
  • Name of your ISP's NNTP (News) server

These answers are for the Wingate install screens for Wingate version 2.1d.  Earlier installers will have different screens, but you should be able to figure out the answers by following these instructions. 1) Choose Install Method

Install Method Dialog box

2) Select Install Directory- Leave as is or enter or browse to the desired directory.

Choose Directory Dialog box

3) Enter License Info- Leave blank unless you've purchased a licensed version (needed if you want to share more than one computer).

4) Basic Services- Uncheck all boxes except "Install Support for HTTP (WWW)".

Basic Services Dialog box

5) DHCP Server- Uncheck the box.

6) Mail Settings- Enter the name of your ISP's SMTP server.
(The screenshot below shows the information for my ISP.)
Check "Install POP3 Proxy".

Mail Settings Dialog box

7) IRC IMAP4- Leave all settings blank. Leave the port numbers that you see alone.

8) WWW Cache- Adjust the cache size if you're tight on disk space, otherwise leave the default settings as is.

9) Log file Server- Leave "Install Log File Server" checked.

10) Wingate Client Utility- Leave the name as "wingate" and leave the IP number set to 192.168.0.1 .

Finish the install by OKing the remaining screens and wait for the installer to tell you it's done.

At this point, Wingate will be running on the proxy machine.

You should now login to Wingate and check the setup.
