You may have heard about Win98's ability to assign multiple IP numbers to a single
NIC. You're thinking "Great! Now I don't have to install a second NIC to share
my connection!"
This ability to multi-home or assign multiple IP addresses to a single NIC has existed in
WinNT and it's possible in Win98 (and probably Win95) if you're comfortable editing your
Registry.
Please, do yourself a favor and don't do this if
you don't know what the Registry is, or without reading this page
first.
Still determined? , then see Microsoft Knowledge
base article Q156772 (if it's your first trip to the KB, you'll have to register).
Remember, there are still many reasons to use two NICs, especially if your cable ISP
uses the method of locking your service to a specific MAC address, i.e. to a specific NIC.
I know I must sound like a broken record, but the most reliable, secure way to share
your connection is to have two NICs and create a separate LAN for your computers.
