I'm an @Home user and I get a "detecting Proxy server" message and a long delay when I try to use my web browser.

This is a common problem with @Home users and other users whose ISP sets them up to access the web via the ISP's proxy server.  The ISP usually does this to try to lower the load on their Internet backbone connection by serving cached pages from the proxy server.

To fix the problem, just go to your browser's Proxy settings and set it to connect directly to the Internet.  Also make sure that Automatic Configuration or Automatic Proxy configuration isn't being used.

For Netscape, the setting looks like this.

For IE, the setting looks like this:

Also click the Configure button under Automatic configuration and make sure that the box is blank as shown below.
