NetIQ Performance Endpoints

NetIQ Performance Endpoints

To use Qcheck, you need NetIQ Performance Endpoint software installed on each computer you intend to test.

As part of the installation process, the endpoint for Windows 95, 98, NT, or 2000 is automatically installed on the computer where you installed Qcheck. If you have an older version of the endpoint software, Qcheck will prompt you to upgrade to the more recent version included in the installation.

NetIQ provides Performance Endpoint software free of charge. Users on your network can install endpoints on their computers by visiting the NetIQ Corporation Web site at http://www.ganymede.com/download/endpoints/ and downloading the endpoint appropriate for the operating system they are using. The whole procedure should take users less than five minutes. Advise users to read the free PDFs available at the same Web site explaining how to install and deploy endpoints for all 17 operating systems supported.

You can also download the endpoints and make them available for users on a shared network drive. Or you can distribute them via Microsoft's Systems Management Server (SMS). The Performance Endpoints manual provides more information.

Endpoints for Windows 95, 98, NT, and 2000 support the TCP, UDP, SPX, and IPX protocols. In these environments, the endpoint runs as a service after you enable it during installation. With other operating systems, the endpoint starts automatically. It functions only during tests and should not interfere with other application traffic in your computer.

If you need to stop the endpoint, go to a command prompt. From the directory where the endpoint is installed, type endpoint -k to stop a Windows 95 or Windows 98 endpoint. To stop a Windows NT or Windows 2000 endpoint, type net stop ganymedesoftwareendpoint. Alternatively, access the Services dialog from the Control Panel, select Ganymede Software Endpoint, and press the Stop button. For information on stopping endpoints for other operating systems, see the Performance Endpoints manual.
