[Thnx to Lon Miller for this tip!]

Personal Firewalls such as ZoneAlarm, BlackICE, or others can interfere with access to your router's web browser based admin pages.  Symptoms can be:

  • Admin page menu items take a long time (over 30 seconds) to load

  • Images doesn't display at all or you have to right-click and choose "Show Picture"

  • Script errors

The specifics of the solution vary according to the personal firewall that you're using, but the basic approach is to make sure that the IP address of your router is included in the firewall's "trusted" or "Local Network" IP address range.

Here are some specifics for ZoneAlarm (courtesy of Lon Miller):

ZA has a setting (Security/Advanced) where you can define the IP addresses that are in your local network. When I changed the router's IP address range a couple of months ago from 192.168.1.1 to 192.168.X.X (to defeat scripts, etc), I didn't change the "Local Network" ZA setup screen settings to include the new IP range.  Adding the new IP solved the problem.
