09.03.2003. Developed specifically for small and mid-sized businesses (SMBs), NETGEAR’s new Smart 24+2 switch delivers inexpensive Ethernet and Gigabit Ethernet performance while providing many of the basic management features typically found in more expensive, fully managed switches. The FS526T Smart Switch offers 24-port support for the current industry standard 10/100 Mbps as well as scalability to the increasingly popular Gigabit Ethernet, which delivers performance of 1000 Mbps, via two additional ports.
The “lightly managed switching solution” provides basic management capabilities through a web browser interface, enabling users and administrators to monitor switch performance, configure ports, or even set up port trunks, VLANs, and prioritization.
“The FS526T Smart Switch fills a void for growing businesses that need high-speed Gigabit uplinks and that can benefit from management features such as port trunking and Quality of Service (QoS), but can’t afford a fully-managed solution,” says Peter Newton, NETGEAR Product Line Manager. “The NETGEAR Smart 24+2 switch provides customers a high-performance, manageable networking solution at unmanaged switch prices.”
The FS526T sports 24 10/100 Mbps and two 10/100/1000 Mbps auto-negotiating ports that support Auto Uplink technology. Simplifying the installation and management of the FS526T, the included Smart Wizard Discovery Utility software finds the switch on the network and determines its IP address, allowing administrators to quickly access the management features through the web browser.
The Smart 24+2 switch will be available in September and is expected to carry a list price of $400.
