How to Change Your WiFi Name (SSID)

The first step is to log into your router. You can do this by opening a web browser and navigating to the IP address of your router.

This is usually 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.0.1, but it may be different for you (consult your router’s documentation).

I’ve compiled a list of the default router IP Addresses to help you find your router settings page:

Netgear routers most common ip address – 192.168.1.1
TP-LINK routers most common ip address – 192.168.1.1
Xiaomi routers most common ip address – 192.168.31.1
Belkin routers most common ip address – 192.168.2.1

Once you’re logged in, look for a section called Wireless or WiFi.

Next, find the SSID field and change the name to whatever you want it to be. Be sure to click Save or Apply at the bottom of the page when you’re done.

That’s all there is to it!

Your new WiFi name will be broadcast to any devices in range – make sure to change the SSID in the Wi-Fi settings for all your devices that are connected to your network.

If you want to get really creative, you can even change your WiFi password to something funny.

Just look for the section labeled Wireless Security or Passphrase and enter a new password.

Again, be sure to save your changes before exiting the page.
