Apple iPhone Timeline – From 2007 to 2023

2008
A new model of the iPhone was introduced one year after the first one. It had 8GB of basic storage and 3G connectivity. This was smaller than its predecessor, despite the fact that it was initially offered in 16 GB and 32 GB versions.
The iPhone 3 had very little differences to the first iPhone. The introduction of the App Store and its 3G connectivity were the only things that set it apart from its predecessor. Despite this, it sold millions of units during the first weekend following its debut.

2009
On June 19, 2009, Apple announced the iPhone 3G(S), following the success of the prior model. It was regarded as the “most powerful” phone ever produced at the time.

A million units were also sold in its first week. Apple produced this version with a 32 GB maximum storage capacity and a 256MB memory, which was double that of the iPhone and iPhone 3G’s 128MB memory. Apple understood that 16 GB wouldn’t cut it with the recent launch of its App Store.

2010

2011
Apple called it “The most amazing iPhone yet”.

The iPhone 4S included a 64 GB hard drive, Siri the personal digital assistant, an 8 MP camera, and 1080p video recording. In its first week, Apple sold 4 million iPhones, and business seemed to be booming for the company.

2012
With this edition, Apple made some innovative improvements to the iPhone. It included lightning ports, LTE connectivity, and a hefty 1 GB of RAM. It was even more successful than its predecessor, selling 5 million units in just one week. This model’s successors, the 5C and 5S, were unveiled on September 30, 2013, about a year later.

2013
“You’re more powerful than you think.” was the marketing tag-line of the iPhone 5S.

With a 4″ display, 8.0 MP camera, dual flash, touch ID, and slow-motion video capture. While the iPhone 5C, which came in a variety of colours, it shared certain characteristics with the iPhone 5S.

2014
10 million sales in the first week, 169 million in total, Retina HD display, 128 GB storage, and 5.5″ display (Plus). With a 12 MP camera and 2 GB of memory, Apple’s technology completely improved, surpassing that of prior iPhone models and many of its competitors. This was yet another big triumph for the company.

2015

2016
Apple unveiled the iPhone 7 a few months after the iPhone SE. It included a dual camera, 16GB base storage option, 32GB and 256GB storage, and that stunning jet-black hue. In order to replace earbuds with EarPods and a wireless converter, Apple did away with the headphone port at this time. With a significant amount of pre-orders, this phone was an immediate hit even before it was released.

2017
iPhone users were now accustomed to living without a headphone jack and were enjoying the phone’s excellent photo editing and photo filtering features. This became a win-win situation with the addition of the glass back cover for the phone and wireless charging. Additionally, the true-tone display proved to be a real upgrade.

iPhone X came to the market a couple of months later with no home button and the introduction of FaceID. People fell in love with this phone right away thanks to portrait mode, an additional front-facing camera, and an increased display resolution.

2018
iPhone XR was unveiled alongside the iPhone X and cam out on October 26, 2018. This device was larger than the 7 and 8 plus but smaller than the XS and XS Max. Innovation was lacking on this model. It wasn’t as unique as the X or the XS, but it was nonetheless successful and more reasonably priced. Diehard fans of Apple felt that it wasn’t as good as the X, XS,
or the XS Max.

2019
Although it was Apple’s cheapest iPhone model, it remained a constant candidate for the year’s most popular smartphone. With ultra-wide lenses and 11 and 12 MB cameras on the rear, this device was a clear winner. The iPhone 11 Pro, a little larger iPhone with a noticeable triple-camera back, was also made public by Apple.

With three 12 MB cameras and a Super Retina XDR display, the 11 Pro offered customers more colour possibilities. The iPhone 11 Pro Max, Apple’s most costly phone to date, was also released on the same day, the Pro Max had a Super HD Retina XDR display, which was essentially the same as the iPhones 11 and 11 Pro but had a much larger screen. This proved to be just enough of an improvement to attract many purchasers upon debut, regardless of its cost.

2020
The iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 mini are Apple’s successors to the iPhone 11 and feature edge-to-edge Super Retina XDR displays and a new Ceramic Shield shell that, according to a press release from the company, represents “the biggest improvement in durability yet on iPhone.”

The 12 had the finest video quality of any smartphone available at the time, thanks to its twin camera system, A14 Bionic processor, and ability to record HDR video on Dolby Vision using both an Ultra-Wide and a new Wide camera.

2021
Along with the iPhone 13, Apple also unveiled the iPhone 13 small, iPhone 13 Pro, and iPhone 13 Pro Max models.

The design is almost exactly the same as the iPhone 12 models, but fans were pleased to notice that the notch was much less.

2022
Apple released the brand new iPhone 14, iPhone 14 Plus, 14 Pro and the 14 Pro Max.

2023
Apple released the brand new iPhone 15, iPhone 15 Plus, 15 Pro and the 15 Pro Max.

In this release, the iPhone now boasts more luminous screens and upgraded camera setups. Meanwhile, the premium iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max are now outfitted with a titanium frame, enhancing their durability.

Additionally, the Pro and Max versions introduce a versatile “action button”, replacing the traditional mute switch, which can be tailored for multiple functions.
